Injectables for TMJ/TMD in Newcastle

treatment roomIf you’ve suffered from TMD or TMJ disorder, you know it doesn’t just hurt your jaw—it can also be a pain in the neck! In addition to causing significant discomfort in the face, neck, and head, this condition can make it hard to eat, talk, or sleep, and can even affect your smile.

At 7 Pearls Dental, we use injectables to help with jaw clenching or teeth grinding (also known as bruxism). Jaw clenching and teeth grinding can cause you to slowly wear away your teeth, causing significant dental problems in the long run.

How Do injectables Work for TMD?

If you press on the sides of your mouth, you might be able to feel a hard spot or band that hurts when you push on it. That’s a trigger point, or a spot in the muscle that has become chronically tight and painful.
NEW PATIENTS

We inject trigger points with a naturally occurring toxin that acts as a muscle relaxant. It works by blocking the nerve impulses that stimulate muscles to contract. As the muscles relax, trigger points that have been causing pain resolve, relieving the feeling of tightness and tension.

Are They Right for Me?

You are unique, so a pre-assessment is an essential part of deciding whether injectables are right for you. Most patients tolerate injectables well and experience profound pain relief as a result. Increased comfort is just step one. Helping your jaw relax is also vital to your oral health. When your muscles return to proper functioning, you’ll finally break the habit of clenching and grinding, and you’ll no longer be wearing down your teeth.

What You Can Expect

Your initial consultation will be with our dentist, Dr Anish Malesu who has extensive expertise in the anatomy of the head and neck.

During this visit, we’ll take a thorough medical history, perform an examination, and discuss the most appropriate treatment plan, plus the costs and potential risks associated with treatment, so there are no surprises.
